Petra Community Housing Awarded PHARE Grant to Support Preservation of Affordable Housing

Petra Community Housing is pleased to announce it has been awarded $85,000 through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) Fund by the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA). This award will support the replacement of aging windows at the Flag House, a key property in Petra’s affordable housing portfolio.

The Flag House provides quality, affordable homes to low-income seniors in the region. The planned window replacement is an essential step toward preserving the long-term integrity, energy efficiency, and comfort of this critical housing resource.

This latest award builds on previous support from PHFA, including a $225,000 HOP-MF (Housing Options Program – Multifamily) grant, which was secured to address other needed capital improvements at the Flag House. Together, these investments represent a major milestone in Petra’s ongoing mission to maintain and preserve affordable housing that is safe, stable, and sustainable.

“We are deeply grateful for PHFA’s continued partnership and investment in our work,” said Jonathan Capeci, Executive Director of Petra Community Housing. “These funds allow us to preserve the Flag House not just as a building, but as a vital source of housing stability for the residents who call it home.”

Petra Community Housing remains committed to strengthening communities through the development and preservation of affordable housing. These projects ensure that vulnerable households have access to safe, decent, and affordable places to live—today and for generations to come.
